Leadership

  • Sarah Rasmussen

    Artistic Director

Sarah Rasmussen is Artistic Director at McCarter, where she is thrilled to carry on its long tradition of championing innovative art. Prior to McCarter, Rasmussen was Artistic Director of the Jungle Theater in Minneapolis, where in recognition of her directing work she was named Star Tribune’s Artist of the Year. Rasmussen also served as Resident Director for Oregon Shakespeare Festival’s Black Swan Lab new work development program and Head of MFA Directing at the University of Texas at Austin. She has directed at Arena Stage, Oregon Shakespeare Festival, the Guthrie, Dallas Theater Center, Actors Theater of Louisville, La Jolla Playhouse and many others. She is an alum of the SoHo Rep. and Lincoln Center Directing Labs. She was an inaugural recipient of the BOLD Leadership Circle grant, which continues to fund her artistic vision and is also the recipient of a Princess Grace Award, an Ivey Award for Overall Excellence, and Drama League and Fulbright fellowships. Rasmussen holds a Master of Fine Arts from the University of California, San Diego.

  • Martin Miller

    Executive Director

Martin Miller joined McCarter as Executive Director in September, 2023, where he has led initiatives to build community support, broaden access, and spark renewed growth—helping double overall attendance during his first season. Previously, he was Executive Director/Producer at TheatreSquared, which he transformed from a company offering 50 performances a year on a $160,000 operating budget to an organization offering 350 performances annually on a $7.5 million budget. He led fundraising, design, and construction for the company’s $31 million, multi-venue, permanent home, an open-all-day community gathering space (AIA NY Honor Award; 2021 International Architecture Award). His twin commitments to smart fiscal stewardship and risk-taking artistry were reflected in 14 years of sustained growth and accolades, including the Obie Award and a “Best of 2020” Critics’ Pick in The New York Times. He is a graduate of Carleton College, holds a masters in arts leadership, and has lived in Princeton with his family since 2019.
