The Song of
America
Project

|
“Is there a more important American singer on today’s opera stages? Is there a more acclaimed singer singing anywhere? The ubiquitous Thomas Hampson is as close to an opera superstar as you can get for a baritone, starring at the Met one moment, singing Mahler at Carnegie Hall the next, and serving next season as the first artist-in-residence at the New York Philharmonic. For Hampson, songs and singing are the “diary of our existence”, and for this reason he has long been a champion of the American song—in fact, he might well be called the ambassador of the American song to the world. So it’s no surprise that his McCarter recital will be part of his continuing Song of America project, marking the 250th anniversary of the first song written in America, a tour that will take him to all fifty states over the course of several seasons.” – WWLjr.
