Gidon Kremer, Artistic Director and Soloist

Violinist and conductor Gidon Kremer returns to McCarter with his chamber ensemble Kremerata Baltica (celebrating its 20th-anniversary season this year), comprised of 30 talented young musicians from the Baltic States—Latvia, Estonia, and Lithuania—selected by Kremer himself. Essential to its artistic personality is its creative approach to programming which looks beyond the mainstream to incorporate world premieres by composers such as Arvo Part, Philip Glass, Giya Kancheli, and Astor Piazzolla.

Program: Part: Fratres (violin and strings) | Weinberg: Chamber Symphony No.4, Op.153 (string orchestra and clarinet) | Tchaikovsky: Serenade Melancolique, Op.26 (violin and strings) | Mussorgsky: Pictures at an Exhibition (violin and string orchestra) | Silvestrov: Serenade for solo violin
